Youth top new electors on May 31 voters’ list

Seventy-four per cent of the newly registered electors on the May 31, 2016 voters’ list are between the ages of 18 and 24 years. The list was published with a total of 26, 259 new names, of which 19, 415 were in the under 25 category.

A significant majority of the new youth electors are in the 18 and 19 age group, accounting for 14, 989 of the 19, 415. The statistics also show that persons between 25 and 65 years amounted to 5, 955 while 889 persons over 65 were added.

The Westmoreland Central constituency recorded the most additions across all ranges with 709 new electors. This brings the number of eligible voters in this constituency to 42, 533, making it the constituency with the highest number of electors.

A total of 12, 821 females and 13, 438 males were added to the list which now stands at 1,849,012.
