Bartlett speaks at major tourism meeting

Opposition Spokesperson for Tourism and Travel Service Development and former Minister of Tourism, Mr. Edmund Bartlett departed the island this weekend for Chicago where is to be a featured Speaker at the prestigious Sustainable Travel International’s (STI) Sustainable Tourism Leadership Network (STLN) at the United Airlines World Headquarters.
Mr. Bartlett will be speaking on the theme Destination Stewardship. Mr. Bartlett said, “The world is in a new Tourism Age with globalization and we must promote new forms of tourism which will bring the greatest benefit to all Participants including travelers, the host population and tourism businesses but with significant care given to the country’s ecological and social environments”. Mr. Bartlett went on to state that “many Caribbean countries including Jamaica have not effectively balanced tourism development with important ecological and social considerations”.  
The STLN is an executive-level forum for industry leaders who are committed to achieving the highest levels of sustainability in travel and tourism. Currently, more than fourteen corporations, including Abercrombie and Kent, Carnival Corp., Fairmont Raffles Hotel International, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, InterContinental Hotels Group, Loews Hotels, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., Sabre Holdings, and United Continental Holdings, Inc. form part of this network.
Mr. Edmund Bartlett is a board of member of Sustainable Travel International (STI).
