Job Summary

This position is responsible for ensuring the overall success and growth of an assigned portfolio by deepening relationships with existing members and through acquisition of new members/business. The position of Business Development Officer reports to the Senior Business Development Officer.

Job Description

• Assist in analyzing current member base, business contacts and stakeholders to identify potential sales opportunity.
• Assist in designing and implementing the strategic sales plan to increase member base.
• Effectively profile and interview members and prospects to recommend appropriate products and services to meet their needs.
• Identify and develop new business proposals to meet the unit’s revenue targets.
• Use multiple prospecting methods to generate leads, set up sales meetings and pitch appropriate product offerings to prospects.
• Build brand awareness through on-site business events, networking and other business outreach activities.
• Manage relationships with members to increase cross-selling to maximize revenue contribution while mitigating risk.
• Proactively follow up on commitments to ensure member satisfaction and maintain ongoing financial conversation to build meaningful relationships.
• Assist in developing promotional strategies to increase utilization of the Credit Union’s products and services among existing and prospective members.
• Conduct loan and savings interest rates surveys in a manner to inform business decisions.
• Attend community and/or industry forums, conferences and meetings to broaden relationship networks and referral sources to keep abreast of industry trends, practices, services and the competitive landscape
• Respond to queries and complaints from members regarding our products and services; this should be done in timely manner.
• Assist in developing the budget for business development to be included in the overall annual budget.
• Actively demonstrates knowledge and sensitivity to the current regulatory environment and compliance with the various applicable regulations.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must possess:

• Sound knowledge of selling techniques and practices
• Ability to think creatively and meet challenges with resourcefulness
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate issues
• Excellent sales, marketing and IT skills
• Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
• Must possess a valid driver’s licence and own and operate a reliable motor car.

Requirements

• A First Degree in Business Administration/ Management or Marketing from a recognized institution.
• Three (3) years related working experience in a similar position
• Ability to identify client needs and present financial solutions.
• Ability to compile and report results of activities performed.
